Our Story

Serving communities through faith, education, social action, and leadership formation.

A Shared Vision

For the churches and leaders who would later form the Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention, that conviction was simple yet profound: that by walking together in faith, churches could encourage one another, strengthen one another, and serve their communities more faithfully and effectively than they could alone.

Guided by the teachings and life of Jesus Christ, they believed that faith is expressed not only in worship, but also in love, care for those in need, the pursuit of peace, and service that strengthens families, communities, and future generations.

Long before the Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention was formally established, Baptist churches across the region were already faithfully serving their own communities. Each church and association carried out its ministry within its own local context, while sharing a common faith, a common calling, and a desire to see lives transformed through the love of Christ.

As relationships grew, so did the recognition that many opportunities and challenges could be addressed more effectively through cooperation. Walking together would enable churches and associations to encourage one another, share resources, develop leaders, strengthen ministries, and respond more effectively to the spiritual, educational, and social needs of the people they served.

This growing spirit of cooperation laid the foundation for a lasting fellowship.

The Beginning of KABC

In 1980, that shared vision found organizational expression in the formation of the Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention.

The establishment of KABC was not simply the creation of a new institution. It was the beginning of a shared journey--a fellowship through which Baptist churches and associations could work together while respecting the unique identity, ministry, and calling of each member body.

From the very beginning, KABC existed not to replace local churches and associations, but to strengthen them, encourage cooperation, and help them accomplish together what would often be difficult to achieve alone.

Growing Together

Over the years, the Convention has continued to grow alongside its churches and associations, responding to changing needs while remaining rooted in its original calling.

Together, KABC has expanded its work through education, leadership development, humanitarian service, peacebuilding, community development, and support for local churches and ministries. New partnerships, institutions, and initiatives have emerged, yet the heart of the Convention has remained unchanged: churches and associations walking together in faith, love, and service.

Each generation has contributed to this continuing story, building upon the faith, commitment, and sacrifice of those who came before.

The Journey Continues

Today, the story of the Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention continues through churches that faithfully serve their communities, pastors and leaders who care for congregations, teachers who nurture young minds, volunteers who serve with love, and families whose lives are touched through education, compassion, peacebuilding, and community development.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to the same shared calling that brought our churches together--to walk together in faith, love, and service, trusting that by serving God and serving our communities, we can continue to strengthen communities, nurture future generations, and contribute to a more peaceful and hopeful society.
