Our History

Since its establishment in 1980, the Convention has continued to grow through the commitment of its churches, associations, leaders, and members. Each stage of its development has contributed to the life and ministry of the Convention while remaining rooted in its founding vision of walking together in faith, love, and service.

Before the formation of the Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention, several Baptist associations had already been established in and around Karbi Anglong. Each association faithfully served its own churches and communities while functioning independently.

As relationships among these associations developed, so did the desire to strengthen cooperation, encourage one another, and work together in areas of shared ministry. This growing spirit of fellowship laid the foundation for the establishment of the Convention.

In 1980, the Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention was established through the joint initiative of three Baptist associations:

• Nihang Karbi Baptist Association (NKBA)
• Puta Karbi Baptist Association (PKBA)
• Western Rengma Baptist Association (WRBA)

These three associations became the founding constituent member bodies of the Convention and laid the foundation for a united Baptist fellowship in Karbi Anglong.

The establishment of KABC provided a common platform through which churches and associations could cooperate more closely, strengthen one another, and undertake ministries of shared concern while preserving the unique identity and ministry of each constituent member association.

Following its establishment, additional Baptist associations sharing the faith, vision, and objectives of the Convention sought affiliation with KABC.

Over the years, the Convention gradually expanded its fellowship, bringing together churches representing diverse ethnic, linguistic, and cultural communities.

Each new constituent member association enriched the life of the Convention while continuing to serve its own churches and communities.

Alongside the growth of its fellowship, the Convention continued to strengthen and expand its ministries.

Christian education, leadership development, humanitarian service, peacebuilding, community development, and support for local churches have become important expressions of the Convention's shared ministry.

As new opportunities and challenges emerged, KABC continued to respond while remaining faithful to its vision and mission.

Today, the Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention is a fellowship of fourteen constituent member associations.

Together, these associations continue to strengthen local churches, develop Christian leaders, promote Christian education, encourage cooperation among churches, and serve communities across Karbi Anglong and beyond.

While much has changed since 1980, the Convention continues to be guided by the same commitment that inspired its formation: walking together in faith, love, and service.
